Walmart presented a $1,000 grant to the Bedford Boys Basketball Sixth Man Club. The grant was provided upon the recommendation of the local Distribution Center after its review of the needs in Bedford.

“Our aim is to be good corporate citizens in the communities we serve,” said Colin Milburn, HR Manager. “We are proud to support the needs of organizations like the Sixth Man Club that work to provide the best experience for our local scholastic sports teams.”

Through this grant the Sixth Man Club will now be able to register several teams with players from grades third through seventh to participate in competitive leagues throughout the region. Bedford will participate in the Garver YMCA League in Roaring Spring and the East Hills Recreation League in Richland.

“The opportunity for our younger players to participate in these leagues is a huge asset in the development of the Bedford basketball program,” said Bedford head coach Jason Ressler. “Organized team sports provide numerous benefits to participants including social, mental and psychological benefits. Participants engage in physical activity, learn social skills, teamwork, self-discipline and sportsmanship, as well as develop their basketball skills. We are grateful our local Walmart Distribution Center recognizes the value of scholastic sports teams in our community.”
