CLEARFIELD — The Bedford Over-The-Hillbillies captured their seventh overall championship at the Clearfield “Past-Your-Prime” Modified Fast-Pitch Softball Tournament last weekend.
Proceeds from concession stand sales and other fund-raisers will go to the United States Marine Corps “Toys for Tots” Program conducted by the Sgt. William Dixon Detachment of Clearfield.
The Bedford team trailed 765-Deck/768-Roof, 3-0, after the top of the first inning and were down, 3-2, entering the bottom of the sixth, but scored three runs to take the lead in the championship game.
Kenny Fisher, who got wins in all four complete-games victories, threw a three-hit shutout in the semifinals in a 5-0 win over Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub.
On Saturday, Bedford beat Siegel Engraving/Buster’s Sports Bar, 14-10, and Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub, 8-4.
The championship was the seventh outright championship in the 25-year history of the tournament, matching the number that the Potter’s Bricklayers hauled back to Philipsburg in the first 13 years of the tournament. The Over-The-Hillbillies also shared the 2016 title with Bob Boob’s Garage of Clearfield when weather caused the cancellation of the championship.
The team members are Don Ellis, Chris Theys, Kenny Fisher, Lee Roy, Brett Cessna, Brian McConnell, Matt Whysong, Jim Harshbarger, Greg Whysong, Devon Hosselrode, Corey Wertz and Andy Wertz.
