McLean, Va.Mary Theresa Voytko, 92, of McLean, Va., a native of Schellsburg, died of natural causes on Sept. 17, 2020, with her children at her side.
Following a Mass of Christian burial at St. John the Beloved Catholic Church in McLean, she was laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetery in Falls Church, alongside her late husband, Leo F. Voytko Sr.
Daughter of the late Urban and Margaret Imgrund, she was born and raised on the family farm in Schellsburg with her nine brothers and sisters.
She later attended the Maryland Medical Secretarial School in Hagerstown, moving to Washington, D.C., in 1949, where she worked as a secretary at Walter Reed Army Hospital, the Bureau of the Budget in the Executive Office of the President, and the U.S. Post Office Department.
Upon her marriage in 1955, she became a homemaker and mother, celebrating 34 years of marriage with her beloved husband before his death in 1990.
From 1963, she resided in McLean, where she was a devout and active parishioner at St. John’s Church for nearly six decades. She was a longtime member of rosary clubs at St. John’s and nearby St. James Church, making rosaries for Catholic overseas missions for over 35 years.
An avid quilter, she was a member of the McLean chapter of Quilters Unlimited from 1991, attending weekly bees and making quilts for donation to local community organizations. She loved music and played the piano from childhood, continuing weekly lessons well into her eighties. Jigsaw and word puzzles were another lifelong passion. A member of the McLean Arts Society, she took art lessons late in life, and delighted in painting watercolors of birds and outdoor scenes.
She took great joy in the blessings of her children, family, friends and neighbors, maintaining close relationships with her brothers and sisters, with the sisters- and brothers-in-law who survived her late husband, and with many of her dozens of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is survived by her seven children: Leo F. Jr. (wife Robin Emigh); Mark (wife Michelle); Victoria; Valerie Smolar (husband Robert B.); Paul, (wife Kymberly Copa); Eric; and Mike (wife Beth Ann Mastromarino); and five grandchildren: Roman, Carolyn, Ethan, Dallas, and Jake Voytko. She is also survived by her brother, Alfred Imgrund (Bonnie Joiner), sister Agnes Shoenthal (Don), and brother Paul Imgrund (Lois). She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers James, Robert, John, Philip, Lawrence and sister Patricia Cunnard, an infant sister, and by an infant grandson.
Her children will honor their beloved mother at a Memorial Mass and gathering of family and friends, at a time and place to be determined. Per her request, memorial donations may be sent to the Little Sisters of the Poor, Richmond, Va., or a charity of one’s choosing.
A funeral was held on Sept. 22, 2020.
