Hyndman

Earl B. Shaffer, 89, of Hyndman, passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2019, at Allegany Nursing and Rehab.

Born Nov. 12, 1929, in Hyndman, he was a son of the late Claude B. and Nellie Mae (Bruck) Shaffer.

He is preceded in death by sisters, Betty Ours and Mona “Peggy” Atwood and brothers, John, Bob and Stephen Shaffer.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Evelyn P. (Burkett) Shaffer, whom he married Sept. 5, 1963; daughter, Ellen Shroyer and husband, Donnie, of Hyndman; grandchildren, Corey Shroyer of Hyndman; siblings, Claude “Jitter” (Linda), Richard “Dick,” Douglas “Butch” (Lana) and Glenn “Pug” (Vickie) Shaffer, Wanda Bistline (Les) and Joyce Pensyl (Stanley), of Hyndman, Martha Jane (Jim) Johnston of North Carolina; sister-in-law, Charlotte Shaffer; and many, many nieces and nephews.

Earl served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired from CSX, where he was a machinist. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Hyndman Masonic Lodge 589 F&AM and the Hyndman Rod and Gun Club.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home Inc., 169 Clarence St., Hyndman, on Saturday, Feb. 16, from 10 a.m. to noon, where a service will follow at noon with the Rev. Ryan Viands officiating.

Burial at Madley Cemetery, Buffalo Mills. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that everyone takes a day or more and spend with their family.
