Alice A. (Smith) Croft Gardner, 90, of Osterburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021, at UPMC Altoona Hospital.
She was born on March 21, 1930, in Lutzville, a daughter of the late Jessie M. and Edith M. (Price) Smith.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Guy William Croft, and her second husband, Robert Gardner.
She is survived by four daughters: Beverly A. Young and husband, Donald, of Breezewood; Marilyn L. Brown and husband, Richard, of New Paris; Sharon M. Goodrich and husband, Randy, of Breezewood; and Sandra K. Morgart and companion, William Martin, of Imler; 11 grandchildren: James L. Croft Jr., Desiree Croft, Derrick Croft, Stephanie Croft, Michael Croft, Vicki Fluke, Kristie Young, William Brown, Clayton Goodrich, Jessica Walters and Dustin Morgart; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters: Shirley Ickes and husband, Don, of Osterburg, and Jane Horn, widow of John, of Manns Choice; and two brothers: Harry Smith and wife, Janet, of Tulls Hill, and Carl “Buck” Smith and wife, Carol, of Yellow Creek.
She was preceded in death by a son, James L. Croft Sr., and the following siblings: Jeanette Ford, Marion Eichelberger, Ruth Barrett, Russell Smith, Richard “Dick” Smith, Charles Smith widow Nellie, of Imler, Jesse “Bugs” Smith Jr., Raymond “Jack, Jig” Smith, Denny Smith, Harold Smith and Mary Smith.
Alice worked at the Everett Sewing Factory for over 20 years and then Walmart before retirement. She raised five children on her own, and was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her world revolved around her family. Alice loved working in her yard and her flower garden, birds, puzzle books and bluegrass music.
