Saxton Borough resident Lester Meck last week was retained for his eighth year as Saxton Borough Council president. Councilman John Hoffner was retained as vice president.
Retention of the two top offices was one of many made during council’s reorganizational meeting held prior to its regular meeting, held at the borough office.
Other employees retained included police officers David Buseck and Logan Torntore at a salary of $19 per hour each, respectively, police officer Eric Calhoun at $17.50 per hour and police chief Fred Chadwick at $22.50 per hour. Long-time maintenance supervisor and part-time water employee Brian Wills was retained at 17.95 per hour.
Borough manager Jamie Foster and part-time maintenance and part-time water employee Don Herdman were both retained at $16.50 per hour each, respectively. Borough maintenance/water employee Daryl Replogle was retained at $14.50 per hour.
The following were all also retained by council in their respective roles: First National Bank of Saxton, depository; Allison & Richard’s, borough solicitor; CPA Associates, auditors; Gwinn, Dobson & Foreman, Borough engineers; Saxton Auto Parts, maintenance of borough vehicles; Judy Williams, tax collector for real estate and OCC taxes-five percent; Fisher’s Excavating, contract work at $55 per hour for a truck and $65 per hour for a backhoe.
Employee benefits include the following holidays off: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day and July 4th. Also Labor Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving Day and day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
If the holiday falls on Saturday, the employee has the day before off. If it falls on Sunday, they have the following day off.
If the employee is required to work on a given holiday, they may choose another day for their holiday.
Vacation days consist of the following: five days after six months of service: 10 days after two years of service; 15 days after 10 years of service and 20 days after 15 years of service. Full time employees may carry a maximum of 20 vacation days into the next calendar year and any days beyond the 20 days carried into the next year will be lost.
12 sick days are granted after a six-month probationary period. Unused days may be carried into the next year to a maximum of 100 days.
Five days upon the death of a spouse parent, child, sibling or anyone who has made their home with the employee, shall be granted as bereavement leave. Three days for grandparents and one day for aunt, uncle, nice, nephew and sister and brother-in-law.
One personal day is granted per year to be used at the employee’s discretion. Unused personal days may be accumulated up to five days and any days beyond the five days that are unused will be lost.
Council also agreed to retain the second Monday of each month at 6 p.m. as the day and time of its regular meetings.
Also attending the meeting was council members Phil Johnson, Larry Miller, Adam Runk, Foster, Mayor Alan Smith and Chief Chadwick.
