The Bedford County Sheriff’s Office will resume processing license to carry firearms applications.

To apply, call the sheriff’s office at 623-2910 and schedule an appointment. Once an appointment to enter the courthouse is set, the applicant will use the rear entrance to the second floor of the courthouse. The applicant will be met by a sheriff’s deputy upon entering the building and screened for the COVID-19 virus. The screening will help in reducing the possibility of transmission of the virus to the sheriff’s office. Once approved, the applicant will be escorted to the sheriff’s office and processed. Sheriff Wayne Emerick said citizens do not need a license to carry a firearm if they are simply keeping the weapon in their home for home protection. For information, call the office at 623-2910.
