The Bedford Sunrise Rotary Club will be highlighting Shawnee State Park with two upcoming races.
A Glow Run for Education will be Saturday evening at the Lakeshore Trail in the park. The race will benefit the Bedford County Chamber Foundation.
Participants will have a chance to see the lake “in a new light” as they take on a glow-stick-marked trail for the moonlit run. Runners and walkers will receive glow sticks to wear and a commemorative coin.
Snacks and water will be available. The costs is $25 per person. Registration is available online at runsignup.com until 4 p.m. today. Registration at the event will begin at 8 p.m.
The race will start at 9 p.m.
Proceeds from the race will benefit Chamber Foundation programs that will impact students during the upcoming school year, including: Youth Leadership Bedford County, Community Reading Day, Career Fairs and Field Days, Steps to Success, Student Entrepreneur Contest, Innovation Fair and more.
September’s Rotary Race Series event will benefit the Friends of Shawnee group.
The half-marathon on Sept. 21 will take participants on the trails throughout Shawnee State Park. The event also has 5K and 10K options.
The half-marathon begins at 8 a.m., while the 5k and 10k races begin at 9 a.m.
The cost for the half-marathon is $40 per person, while the other races are $30 each.
Participants will each receive a commemorative coin from the Sunrise Rotary Club and a laser-engraved wooden “medal” upon completing one of the three races.
Proceeds from the September race benefit the Friends of Shawnee, including the annual Fireworks on the Lake event, which has become a highlight of the park’s summer schedule.
The Rotary Race Series is in its third year. The series is made up of a combination of previously-existing and new run/walk events to benefit local non-profits and community organizations.
