CLAYSBURG — The Claysburg Education Foundation is accepting registrations for its 12-day “STEM and the Arts 2019 Program.” The dates are: June 10 through 13; July 15 through 18 and July 29 through Aug. 1 at Claysburg-Kimmel High School from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. for students.

The project is being coordinated by Claysburg-Kimmel School District with parents of Claysburg-Kimmel providing support services. Funding is being provided by the Claysburg Education Foundation with volunteer support from the Claysburg area community, the foundation said in a news release. Registration online is now open to Claysburg-Kimmel students going into grades 5 through 12. Michelle Guyer of Claysburg-Kimmel is the coordinator for the event.

The foundation said this year’s classes are a “kicked up version from prior years.” Participants will have a “focused but fun” curriculum on forensics, environmental science, computer technology plus other areas and some field trips to be announced later.

There will be two hours of STEM activities each day along with two hours of other programs including the Arts and other areas. A 30-minute lunch program is included in the package along with a 30-minute daily special project building session that includes rocket building for the last week of activities. The cost of the program is $25 per student.

Several “renown” speakers and demonstrations are scheduled. Details will be announced at a later time, the foundation said.

The classes are open to the general public, including parents, students, teachers and community members and will be held in the Claysburg-Kimmel auditorium, the foundation said.

Students, volunteers and teachers including other school districts can apply to instruct at the following website: www.claysburgeducationfoundation.org/summer-stem-2019.html. Scholarships for this event are available if needed.

Complete information is available on www.claysburgeducationfoundation.org and clicking the STEM Arts 2019 Program tab. On the site, families may register and pay for student enrollment on-line. Paper applications are available at the school district.

The Claysburg Education Foundation will completely fund the event. During the last twelve months, the Claysburg Education Foundation has raised approximately $170,000 for education based projects.

Registration is currently open to Claysburg area students and on April 15, remaining slots will be open to students from any school district. Deadline for registering children is May 31. Students will be accepted on a first-come first-registered basis.
