Captive Aire

CaptiveAire, in the Bedford County Industrial Park, recently announced a 100,200-square-foot expansion to its plant.

CaptiveAire, one of the nation’s leading ventilation systems manufacturers, is expanding its Bedford facility, the company announced on Tuesday.

The new building will be located adjacent to the existing plant and will provide an additional 96,000 square feet of manufacturing and warehouse space and 4,200 square feet of additional office space — 100,200 additional square feet total.

“It’s a huge bode of confidence in the Bedford County workforce,” said Bette Slayton, president of the Bedford County Development Association (BCDA). “It speaks directly to our dedication and skills as a workforce.”

“We are thrilled to expand our Bedford manufacturing facility,” said Bob Luddy, CaptiveAire president, in a press release. “We have long appreciated the warm welcome of the Bedford community and we look forward to continuing to serve its residents and provide employment opportunities.”

CaptiveAire wil invest $10 million in the new facility and will add 30 new jobs.

“A $10 million investment ... speaks volumes,” Slayton said. “And these new jobs offer tremendous opportunity to our local citizens.”

CaptiveAire came to the Bedford Business Park in 2008 after a multi-state search to find a northeast facility. The company originally purchased a 67,000-square-foot building and subsequently expanded it to 84,000 square feet. In 2018, the company doubled the size of the Bedford facility, adding an extra 84,000 square feet.

Now, just two years later, the company is expanding again.

“Bedford County should be tremendously proud of this continued growth and expansion of a world-class manufacturing company,” Slayton said. “We have cause to be very proud. And our workforce has earned it.

“This continued growth is a testimony to our skilled workforce and CaptiveAire’s innovative, high quality products,” said James Gonsman, chair of the BCDA in a press release. “We couldn’t be happier with this news.”

The company maintains a network of over 100 sales offices in the U.S. and Canada and six manufacturing plants across the nation. It employs 1,300 individuals nationwide, with 160 located in Bedford. In 2018, CaptiveAire sales exceeded $500 million.
