Bedford County Arts and Briar Valley Winery present an exhibit of paintings by local artists Lawrice Dolan and Judy Foor through June 2019. A reception is set for next week.
According to a news release, Foor creates art with paints, pastels, and pyrography as well as in quilts and gardens. While self-taught, she is grateful to have had “a couple of art teachers in school who encouraged me,” she said.
Her favored subjects are flowers and people. Her portraits range from gentle pastels to colorful images of whimsical characters.
Foor is the mother of three, grandmother of six, and great grandmother of two. She lives in Everett in the house her great-grandfather built in 1873.
Dolan “love(s) the process of making art, as well as the adventure of sharing it. My mission is to create beauty, to inspire goodness, to honor nature and to reflect the wisdom, mystery and power of being a woman—courageously crossing thresholds and always ‘becoming,’:” she said. “I … create ‘art stories’ in bold colors—collaging and layering materials, textures, images and symbols.”
Dolan, of Manns Choice, has been a nurse practitioner, a holistic health counselor and is certified in expressive arts therapy. Her husband and son both served overseas as Army Rangers.
The public is invited to meet Dolan and Foor at a reception at the Briar Valley Winery Tasting Room 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 22, 107 E. Pitt St., Bedford; 623-0900. The Tasting Room is open noon to 5 p.m. seven days a week. Admission is free.
