Chuck's spuds

Chuck Corle slices potatoes at the 2019 Heather’s Cup at Chestnut Ridge High School.

The 12th annual Heather’s Cup will be held Saturday beginning at 8:30 a.m. with a new name and a new location, but with the same mission — helping area families who are coping with children battling cancer.

Unlike past years, this year’s event will be held at Crossroads Bible Church, 5564 Business 220, Bedford. In previous years it was held at Chestnut Ridge High School, but moved this year due to coronavirus concerns.

The event has been renamed Heather’s Kup, in memory of Kai Burkett, son of organizers Aaron and Marci Burkett, who died in an auto accident in August.

But much remains the same. The event is centered around a youth flag football tournament, but will offer plenty of food options and a basket raffle.

A prayer circle, centerpiece of the event, will be held at 12:30 p.m. Because of the fields’ proximity to the Bedford County Airport, balloons will not be released this year but will be replaced by bubbles.
