Items for the Bison Weekend Backpack Program are being collected by Thomas Automotive.
The program benefits the students in the Bedford Area School District by sending home single-serving food items to help cover two breakfasts, two lunches, two dinners and a snack to ensure these students have food for the weekend.
Every weekend, hunger is a very real experience for many students who live in homes with little to no food, according to a news release from Thomas Automotive. In fact, 23 percent of Bedford County children are considered to be food insecure, which means that weekends cab be a long stretch.
All food donations need to be single serve and microwavable (if it needs heated).
Items in need are instant oatmeal, granola bars, pop tarts, small boxes of cereal, microwavable mac n’ cheese, microwavable rice, soup, Hormel dinners, cup of noodles, Campbell’s cup of soup, Ramen cups of noodles, Chef-Boyardee cups, crackers, pudding, fruit/applesauce cups, fruit snacks, goldfish, pretzels, raisins, microwave popcorn and juice boxes.
