BMS Olympiad team

The Bedford Middle School Science Olympiad team traveled to California University on March 6 to compete in the southwest regional Science Olympiad. The team medaled in four events and placed eighth overall in a field of 19 teams. Science Olympiad functions much like a football or soccer team, requiring preparation, commitment, coaching and practice throughout the year. Each school-based team is allowed to bring 15 students who cross-train for a variety of events in their skill set. Science Olympiad competitions are like academic track meets, consisting of a series of 23 team events in each division (Division B is middle school; Division C is high school). Each year, a portion of the events are rotated to reflect the ever-changing nature of genetics, earth science, chemistry, anatomy, physics, geology, mechanical engineering and technology. The coaches for the Bedford team are Randy Barnes, Cody Buterbaugh, Jon Harrold, and George Kuhne. In front, from left, are Toby Corle, Garett Wertz, Edison Fetterman, Mathias Sokoloski, Gabrielle Mills, Samantha Kendall, Mady Lang, Ava Gonsman, Allie Hendershot; in back, Trey Myers, Sam Prescott, Isaac Swope, Tristen Ruffley, Ben Weiler, Jonathan Gresh, and Maddy Ritchey.
