A Bedford man is facing multiple felony charges after he allegedly stole prescription medication from his grandmother and a handgun and more pills from a co-defendant.

Brett D. Wilson, 19, waived his right to a preliminary hearing on the charges in central court on Wednesday.

Wilson was first charged with a first-degree felony count of burglary on June 4 after he and Allen M. Berkey, 51, of Bedford allegedly conspired to steal prescription medication from Wilson’s grandmother on May 19.

Police said Berkey lured Junita B. Wilson out of her home at 900 Barefoot Road, West St. Clair Township, that evening by asking her to help him jump start his Jeep, which he told her had broken down a short distance from her home.

Wilson allegedly entered his grandmother’s home while she was helping Berkey and stole alprazolam and ibuprofen pills from her purse. Junita Wilson reported the theft to police, telling investigators her grandson knew the pills were in her purse.

Berkey confessed to police after being questioned about the incident on May 21, saying Wilson had messaged him on Facebook asking him to distract his grandmother, according to court documents. Berkey told police he believed Wilson had stolen a pill bottle containing marijuana from his grandmother.

Both Wilson and Berkey were charged in the case.

Berkey told police he believed Wilson also had stolen a Smith & Wesson SW9VE handgun, ammunition, pills and underwear from him that night.

Police said Berkey reported that he had last seen the handgun in his bedroom nightstand on May 18. Berkey told police Wilson was at his apartment on May 19 and was left alone for a period of time while Berkey went to get food, documents said.

When Berkey returned to his apartment, he found Wilson breaking out of the residence’s front door, which had been deadlocked. Berkey told police Wilson did not understand the lock and broke the front door frame to get out, documents said.

Berkey told police Wilson was wearing a dark backpack and acted evasive, telling him he needed to leave. Berkey later found the gun, two 9mm magazines, about 60 lorazepam pills, about 90 Wellbutrin pills and two pair of underwear missing from his apartment.

Junita Wilson reported a second burglary at her home on May 22, again reporting that her prescription medication had been stolen.

Police obtained a search warrant for Wilson’s Facebook account, which showed a May 21 conversation between Wilson and Brent Fetter in which Wilson asked Fetter to distract his grandmother so he could “grab some weed.” Police said the messages discussed the previous burglary with Berkey, documents said.

Wilson is facing two first-degree felony counts of burglary and two felony counts of criminal trespass and related misdemeanors in the alleged thefts from his grandmother. He is facing a felony count of theft by unlawful taking for the alleged theft from Berkey.

Wilson was arrested Aug. 4 and admitted to stealing the handgun and ammunition, documents said. He told police he did not remember if he had stolen pills from Berkey.

Wilson is being lodged in the Bedford County Correctional Facility on $35,000 straight bail in each of the three cases.
